![]() Your ViewController is expected to compensate for the loss of screen real estate (but how is up to you). This is what happens when the phone gets a call while your app is in the foreground. You can see the various options on the Simulator by selecting Hardware- Toggle In-Call Status Bar. Wrapping everything in NavigationPages is a bit of a pain, but for me it's much less of a pain than having to work out all the edge cases of what size the status bar is supposed to be at any given moment. The OS automatically expands the status bar to (I think) 40px, but only when the phone is in Portrait orientation. It's not 20 when the iPhone gets a phone call.
